The herpes simplex virus is one of the most common types of disease found in North America, Europe and Australia. This virus is very contagious and appears as a blister on the sensitive parts of human body. Type 1 virus occurs on the body parts above the waistline and type 2 virus occurs on the body parts below the waistline. Blisters are known to occur on the face, nostrils, lips, neck, ear, etc. This visible occurrence of blisters presents an emotional problem to many individuals. These blisters may reoccur at any time before it becomes dormant. Once a person is infected by this cold sore virus then there is no permanent cure available on the market. One can only make the virus dormant and hope for the best.

Cold sores can occur in both adults and children. This virus cannot survive in a healthy body which has normal levels of oxygen and a strong immune system. Often people affected by cold sores are advised to keep their hygiene and surroundings clean and tidy. Being a highly contagious disease, it is easily transmitted from one person to other either through saliva, body contact, depleted skin contact, clothes used near the affected area, utensils, etc. People experiencing cold sore need to take their day off from their work because they risk spreading the disease to their manager, peers or to their customers.

A cold sore can be very embarrassing because it affects the most visible parts of the body such as lips, mouth, nostrils, eye lids, etc. During those 9 - 12 days in which the cold sore is present, it passes through various stages of developments. These stages can cause pain and swelling. These blisters grow in size and then ultimately after the prolonged cycle they dry up. Care should be taken when a cold sore dries up as it may leave a mark or a dark spot. These are some of the precautions which you can take to battle the herpes simplex virus from outside.

Cold sores are a contagious disease residing in the host body. Normally it starts as a small lump and then it bulges out and forms a blister which is painful, oozing and contagious. This blister is not a pretty sight as it is usually on the face and it swells and forms a red spot which grows into a bigger lump before passing into remission. This virus may lie dormant for years or it may attack you every month.

Cold sores can be detected early if you can make yourself aware of the warning signs. Common signals such as tingling, itching and warmth at the point of occurrence should be an indicator of cold sore developing. This phase lasts for several hours and is the best time to take precautions. During this phase the infected area should not be touched. Touching or itching will act as a catalyst for the virus to spread to other parts. In case you want to touch, it would be advisable to clean the surface with anti - bacterial agent and then wipe it with cotton.

How wonderful it would be if we had a permanent cure for cold sores. A Cold sore or fever blister is technically known as the Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1). If you are in some fantasy world thinking that by the use of medications you can cure the cold sores virus permanently then you are fooling yourself. There is no medication available today which says that it can cure this virus permanently. The only option available for you is to cure it from both inside and outside of your body.

A statistic that may amaze you is that almost 90% of the world's population has the herpes simplex virus. However, only a small percentage of adults complain about and seek treatment for this virus from their doctor. There are a variety of medications on the market which can provide temporary relief. Tablets are often prescribed by the doctors. Creams are also prescribed which, if applied according to the specified directions, can treat your HSV - 1 virus externally. These creams, tablets, etc can provide you with temporary relief but for permanent relief you need to use both traditional and non traditional approaches.
